Maya needs a hero. The roughly 7 year old lab mix was found roaming the Crescent City Airport on July 7th, 2016 and although she was micro-chipped, no one came to claim her. Over the past year, shelter staff, volunteers and fosters have gotten to know Maya as a gentle, sweet, smart girl packing an arsenal of good doggie manners and fun tricks (sit, down, stay, roll-over, bang, etc. ) and the drive to learn more. Maya is large and athletic and is currently suffering from a Cruciate Ligament Rupture. She needs a $3,500 surgery to repair her injured leg ASAP and a family to help her recover post surgery and offer the comfort of a forever home. BAPBR will contribute $1,000 towards her surgery costs if a hero steps up to adopt Maya and get her the medical care she needs.
Maya's the type of dog who wants to be your one and only and would thrive in a stable, single-dog home. Her recent foster had this to say about her:
"An overnight stay in our home showed Maya to be very familiar and relaxed in this setting. She knew about the doggie door without instruction, loved being on carpeting, and slept quietly and soundly throughout the night. She held her "potty" until the morning walk and traveled like a seasoned trouper in the carrelaxed and enjoying the ride. She didn't mind being bathed and having her nails trimmed, and she has a beautiful shining coat that is easy to maintain.
Maya is intelligent, affectionate and loyal; she will flourish in a loving, stable home with someone who can provide her with the attention and intensive care she desperately needs and deserves. I love her."
Born Again Pit Bull Rescue regularly works with the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Del Norte County Animal Control Shelter located in Crescent City, CAa small coastal town on the OR/CA border. The Del Norte Shelter is a limited facility in a rural area that's often at capacity. While the dedicated staff and volunteers that run the shelter offer the dogs as much comfort and compassion as possible, they struggle with low budgets, aging buildings, small indoor kennel runs, odd adoption viewing hours and low foot traffic. If you're considering adoption, the folks at Del Norte have a wide variety of wonderful dogs looking for homes to call their own and they're ready to help match you to the right one!
The Del Norte County Animal Control Shelter is open Monday

Friday from 8am to 5pm. They are typically closed Saturdays and Sundays though sometimes offer special weekend adoption hours.
